Ron Paul: The Brave One

With regards to the recent protests against China's history of human rights violations including its current imprisonment of Tibetan demonstrators, the House passed a resolution on April 10th that condemned and called on China to release the Tibetans.  The resolution was passed 413-1, with the only opposing vote being that of Congressman Ron Paul.  Paul continues through his voting record to clearly demonstrate his lack of fear of standing up for what he believes in.  Passing such a resolution really does not solve anything; there are not any laws being made, nor can there be ones that impact China's laws.  Such a political action only allows the congressmen to express their human rights worldview and does nothing but widen the gap between the two countries.  Paul proved to be the only one brave enough to stand up against every other Member and suggest the best step that can be taken are to talk with China.

In other news, Paul was also recently awarded the deserving 2007 "Taxpayer's Friend Award" by the National Taxpayer's Union.

Did Paul really suggest that the best course of action would be to talk to China? If so that just does not seem to correlate with his refusal to vote in favor of the resolution, even if it cannot do any good. First of all, Congress makes many resolutions. If Paul refused to support this resolution for its inability to change anything, what is he saying about Congress's actions in general (those not involving bills). Also, when it comes to reelection time, will this vote harm his campaign, when everyone BUT HIM voted in favor of it?
