Update on Paul April 20-28

Congressman Ron Paul is considering using $4 million left over from his presidential campaign to start a for-profit publishing company that would reflect his Libertarian-leaning views. The move could test the limits of federal campaign finance rules. Federal guidelines say the money can't be used for personal things like vacations and mortgage payments, but it's not clear if he could use the money for a company that would produce educational material. It should be interesting to see if this book really will come out in the future.
Paul still has a lot of support. Paul received numerous standing ovations during his speech to a record crowd at the Nevada State Republican Convention in Reno on April 26th. During his speech, Dr. Paul encouraged the attendees to continue efforts to return the Republican Party to its traditional message of limited government, fiscal
responsibility, and protection of personal liberties. He also encouraged his supporters to bring more people into the party. Other than that, paul has been working hard as a congressman and running for re-election as well.

Use someone else's money to start an educational publishing company...that you make money off of. Seems a little ridiculous. The idea is good, but it seems the educational community could be served in much better ways than this idea. Campaigns for the party seem like they would reach a lot more people - because who other than a libertarian will read libertarian literature? Even a non-profit company would generate a more positive reaction. Or spending money on textbooks - to include the libertarian views.

Outrageous!! I think it's crazyness that Paul is thinking of starting a for-profit organization with the money that was given to him for campaign. It would be even crazier if with the profit he is able to go on vacation and pay his home mortgage. It is absurd because what if someone raises money by claiming they will be running for president but then at the last minute they drop out without using any of the money and simply pocket it. I think Paul should use to money to make a non-profit organization that helps the community, or some other type organization that would benefit multiple people and not just him and his house payments.

I agree with both Caitlin and Armando. It seems a little ridiculous that Paul is going to use the money for a for-profit organization. It he really wanted to help the Republican party and the people who gave him the money then he would use the money to create some kind of organization that is non-profit. Or one that at least raised money for the Republicans. But really, a publishing company? The money would be better spent in charities or other social programs. But then again...he is Republican.
